Director
This may be the first Careline Theatre play that Graham has directed but he has a long history of productions in UK. These have included everything from Lancashire comedy, through drama and farce to pantomimes and cabaret shows. However, Unlike John A. Booth, all Graham's work has been in amateur theatre.
Whilst admitting that amateurs are very unlikely to ever achieve the same standards as professionals, Graham believes it is pointless not to strive to reach the highest levels of' performance, whether paid or not. Alter all, audiences pay their money to come in, even to amateur shows, and they are right to expect the performers' very best efforts. For the Director, trying to coax a good dramatic performance from a stage newcomer can be a rewarding experience but it can also be extremely frustrating at times. Happily, not so with this cast.
Graham would also be the first to acknowledge that having John A. Booth as Assistant Director has been an enormous advantage. "John's influence from the stage has been very positive", says Graham. "whilst I have been able to see things from the front. Between us we have been able to overcome most of the difficulties which inevitably arise through
a rehearsal period. John has helped me to knock some of the rust of rnyself and to enjoy the role of Director for the first time in about 20 years!
