Director
All John's working life has been spent in the theatre. After leaving school he joined a professional weekly repertory company and learned the business inside out. As well as becoming an accomplished performer, he proved to have a natural talent for the more technical side of the business, dealing with not just scenery and props, but sound and lighting as well. From there he progressed into stage management and then on to company and theatre management, finishing as theatre general manager, where his thorough knowledge of his work stood him in very good stead. Not only has John worked in many of the largest theatres in UK, but he has engaged and worked with some of the biggest names in show business in Britain. Fortunately for us, John has a remarkable sense of humour and considerable patience, and is quite happy to pass on the benefits of his experience to others. He has successfully adapted his approach and his technique to bring the best out of amateurs, rather than professionals, even those who have never been on stage before. Rehearsals with John are always a pleasure and there are plenty of laughs. However, several of us have come close to exasperating him on a number of occasions, mainly because people sometimes don't listen to the advice and instruction they are being given! When the advice and direction comes from someone with John's talent and wisdom, you don't argue! And he proved he can still do the job himself. He very nearly stole the show in "Run For Your Wife" as Bobby Franklyn, a never-to-be-forgotten gay neighbour.
